Inspired by a hike at Hocking Hills State Park, Logan, Ohio. 12x18 pastel.

This painting captures a quiet, intimate moment along a narrow passage in Hocking Hills—where sandstone walls, forest light, and the hush of the ravine combine into something almost contemplative.

The towering rock face on the left rises cool and blue, its surface mottled and ancient, bearing the weight of time. Its presence feels protective and grounding, like the earth itself leaning in. Across from it, the forest opens in softer greens and golds, bathed in filtered light that drifts down through the canopy. That light doesn’t flood the scene—it glows gently, diffused, as if the forest is breathing it out slowly.
